Junk Food and food allergies
There are people who tend to assume that
consuming junk food may help them gain weight.
Due to the addictive nature and various unique tastes, junk food is quite
famous globally.
As the researchers say, consuming a large amount of junk food may not be the smartest idea. According them, high consumption of junk food is linked to allergies in children.
Children crave junk food and as a result, the probability of children having food allergies is high. According to data from the non-profit Food Allergy Research & Education, about 5.6 million children in America suffer from food allergies.
According to reports, high levels of substances known as Advanced Glycation End-products (AGEs) are directly linked with kids having food allergies. Although AGEs are naturally occurred in the body, they are discovered in high levels in numerous junk foods such as sugars, highly processed foods, and even cooked meat. According to Roberto Berni Canani of the University of Naples, who conducted the research presented at the annual meeting of the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition in Glasgow, children having food allergies on average consumed about 20-40% more junk food within a week compared to the children without any allergy, and they had higher levels of AGEs in their bodies.
Roberto Berni Canani also added, “AGEs are proteins or lipids that become glycated after exposure to sugars and are present at high levels in junk foods – deriving from sugars, processed foods, microwaved foods and roasted or barbecued meats,”.
